Frequently Asked Questions
If I have a virtual session, can I take the call from anywhere?
Yes and no! The beauty of virtual therapy is that you can have sessions in the comfort of your home or from the office. However, there are several settings where taking a virtual therapy session is not allowed. Such settings include being outside of the state of North Carolina, taking the session while operating a motor vehicle, or taking the call from a room with other people within earshot.
If I have my first session with you, am I required to attend a certain amount of sessions after that?
Not at all! Therapy is a place where the client may come and go as they please and you are by no means obligated to remain in treatment if you feel we might not be a good fit.
How often will we meet for sessions?
It depends! I usually like to see new clients on a weekly basis for the first 2-3 months but I recognize that this might not be feasible for all people due to their financial situation or scheduling barriers. Therapy is most effective when conducted on a weekly basis but meeting at such a frequency is not required.
Should I come prepared to talk about something for each session?
I almost always defer to the client to share whatever concern it is that they would like to address in each session. On occasion, there might be a concern that I have related to treatment that I need to discuss or there might be a previously-identified issue that I need to follow up on, but such issues will most likely not be the main content of a session.
Do you record your sessions?
No I do not record my in person or virtual sessions. If for whatever reason I do need to record a session, I will first ask for your consent and will provide my rationale for doing so beforehand.
Do you take insurance?
Yes! At this time, I am paneled with most Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina plans. Prior to beginning treatment, I will attempt to verify your plan to ensure that treatment will be covered and what you can expect to pay, if anything at all! If you have an insurance plan from a different carrier, you may be eligible to use your out of network benefits to be reimbursed for treatment. I can help you verify your out of network benefits and submit claims for reimbursement for you as well!
